Student Union Election in Rajasthan Colleges
In view of the above works being done for the quality of education, the vice chancellors expressed the opinion that the elections of student unions should not be conducted in the current academic session 2023-24.
It was informed by the Vice-Chairman, Rajasthan State Council of Higher Education that student union elections were not conducted from 2004 to 2009 in the universities and colleges of the state. From the year 2010, student union elections are being conducted. Due to the adverse circumstances of Kovid, the student union elections were not conducted in 2020 and 2021.
The position of using money power and physical power freely in the student union elections by the Vice-Chancellors and violation of the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee was clarified. If the student union elections are held, then the teaching work will be highly affected and there will be a lot of inconvenience in implementing the semester system as per the National Education Policy.
Therefore, keeping in view the views expressed by all the vice-chancellors present in the meeting of the state-funded universities and in the larger interest of the students, it has been decided by the state government not to conduct the student union elections in the higher educational institutions of the state in the session 2023-24.
